What to know before you use the tip
Wood is free at Hampshire tips, but a van needs a permit, so check the details before you load up. Our Hampshire tips guide covers booking, vans and what they take.
A shed rarely comes down in one piece. Expect panels, a roof, floor boards and a pile of screws and nails. Roofing felt, glass in windows and any treated or painted sections may need sorting from clean wood.
Getting a shed ready to go
Do
- Empty it completely, including shelves and anything stored in the roof
- Take out glass and window panes carefully first
- Wear gloves and sturdy shoes when dismantling
- Keep nails and screws out of the way of bare feet and tyres
Don't
- Leave paint, oil or chemicals inside
- Dismantle it alone if panels are heavy
- Overload a car or trailer with long boards
- Assume a hired tipper will be allowed on site without checking
